Eleusinian Mysteries for the 80th Anniversary of UNESCO

With great success and the participation of a large audience, the anniversary event celebrating the 80th anniversary of UNESCO’s founding took place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the KatrakeioTheatre of Nikaia, which was filled with 5,500 spectators.

The event was organized by the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and the Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations of Europe and North America, with the support of the Municipality of Nikaia–Agios Ioannis Rentis.

The highlight of the evening was the theatrical production “Eleusinian Mysteries” by the RODA Theatre, directed by Maria Peretzi. The performance — a grand artistic synthesis of dance, live music, choirs, and rich stage design — transported the audience into the mystical atmosphere of ancient Eleusis, highlighting the timeless values of culture and spirituality.

The evening concluded with warm and prolonged applause, confirming the power of art to bridge the past with the present and to inspire the future.

Opening remarks were delivered by:

Mr. Konstantinos Maragkakis, Mayor of Nikaia–Agios Ioannis Rentis
Ms. Assel Utegenova, from UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Liaison Officer and Focal Point for UNESCO Associations and Clubs
Ms. Ekaterini Tzitzikosta, President of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO
Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, President of the Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations of Europe and North America

The event at the Katrakeio Theatre was honored by the presence of representatives of the State, local government officials, diplomats from many countries, and prominent cultural figures, reaffirming UNESCO’s international mission and its enduring message of peace and culture.
